Prayer for a Grieving Friend

Prayer for a Grieving Friend: Grief is pain caused by a form
of loss or misfortune. As mortals, there are times that
unfortunate situations happen to us or around us. Some of
them may be unpreventably so.

“Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of
trouble” (Job 14:1).

Victory through Christ: However, no matter what life may
present to us at any time, we can be sure of victory through
our Lord Jesus Christ.

“These things I have spoken unto you, that in Me ye might
have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of
good cheer; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).

No matter the nature of the loss or misfortune, there is
consolation in Christ.

“For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our
consolation also aboundeth by Christ” (2 Corinthians 1:5).

Purpose for Every Loss: God is too serious with our lives
than to leave us to chances. Everything He permits to come
around us at any time is meant to accomplish a purpose which
we may not see at the time being but would eventually play
out. So, this should strengthen our confidence as we
encounter the challenges of life.

“And we know that all things work together for good to them
that love God, to them who are the called according to His
purpose” (Romans 8:28).

Prayer for a Grieving Friend

Thanksgiving: Father, thank You for counting my friend
worthy of going through a time as this. For only someone You
can trust can be granted the opportunity to face a season of
this nature in life.
Fortitude to Bear the Loss: Lord, grant my friend the ability
to withstand the shock of the loss he/she has suffered in
Jesus name. Give him/her the courage to withstand the shock
in Jesus name.
Recovery of Losses: Father, Job lost 7 sons and 3 daughters
but You restored to him again another 7 sons and 3
daughters. Please do likewise for my friend in Jesus name.
Bless his/her end more than the beginning, like You did for
Job in Jesus name.
“And the Lord turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for
his friends: also the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had
before” (Job 42:10).
Depth of Insight from the Loss: Merciful God, do not let my
friend suffer in vain, but let his experience increase his/her
depth of Insight about You in Jesus name. Let it draw him/her
closer to the stature You have earmarked in Jesus name.
“For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man
perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. For our
light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far

more exceeding and eternal weight of glory” (2 Corinthians
A Stop to Further Losses: Father, let this loss be the last in
Jesus name. Let it not go beyond where it is in Jesus name.
“What do ye imagine against the Lord ? He will make an utter
end: affliction shall not rise up the second time” (Nahum 1:9).
“And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here
shall thy proud waves be stayed?” (Job 38:11).
Appreciation: Thank You for answered prayers. In Jesus
name I have prayed. Amen!
