6 Powerful Prayers for the Church

It’s not a secret that the Church is increasingly facing challenges. From declining attendance to generational differences, from few to no marriages, from uncommitted Christians to infighting and pride. There are many issues churches face today. Even the culture is against the church!

Prayers for the Church Of God

Our Church is going through a challenging time. Our leadership is hurting. And our members are disillusioned because they can’t find answers to these problems. The current culture of “anti-faith” can be very challenging and I worry about how it will affect future generations. If you would like to join me in this prayer, please pray for the church of christ.

1- Prayer of revival for the church

Our Church is in desperate need of revival. The spirit of pride and selfishness pervades our church community. I pray, dear Lord, that you will come to our aid and fill your people with your spirit and power. So that our hearts may be cleansed and filled with humility, love for one another, and faith in you our Father. Oh God, please bring us back to the ways of old and make your church home for the needy, sick and broken. Fill our youth with hope, strength, and wisdom so that they too may be counted among the faithful.

Psalm 85:6 – Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you?

2- Prayers for sinners to know God

Shine your light on those who have yet to know you, Jesus. Let your gentle love and goodness radiate out of us and toward them. May they be drawn to the One who is the source of all true Joy and Love.

Lord, we beg of thee, help them be aware of their sin and how it separates them from you. Open the eyes of their hearts that they will find their way to you. Show them that you are real and have love for all. Please give them the courage to come to you just as they are and accept you as their savior and maker of everything. In Jesus name, we pray, amen.

4- Fill your church with your Holy Spirit

How great it is to be on fire for your will and be filled with the Holy Spirit! This is our prayer for the church; that it would experience a power-filled life in Jesus Christ.

Lord, I pray you would fill your church so that all who come in the door might sense your presence. Let them experience something more than a place of meeting. Let it be the place where hearts are changed, and a new, powerful work of grace occurs.

I pray that you visit your church and fill it with your spirit and power. Visit every believer in their homes, schools, and workplaces, touching their hearts and filling them with grace, mercy, righteousness, and holiness.

May your spirit be seen and felt clearly among us so that our lives will be an example for those who do not yet know you.

Ephesians 5:18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit.

4- Prayer for church leaders

Gracious God, we pray for your gifts to be poured out upon pastors, elders, and deacons. Enable them to follow you with humility and love. Give them the wisdom they need to lead your Church and counsel your people with godly wisdom. May they be men whose words are received by those who hear them. Hold them steady through the storms and make them firm in their commitment to follow you.

Protect them and their families as they go about their ministry so that they may fulfill what you have called them to do.

Acts 20:28 – Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the Church of God, which he bought with his own blood.

5- Prayer for unity in the body of Christ

We pray for healing of the divisions that threaten the Body of Christ.

We pray for unity where there is division. We pray for an end to prejudice and judgmentalism. Break down hostile walls and lead us to love and mercy. Help us see our prejudices, and help us find grace to apologize and move forward together in unity as brothers and sisters in Christ.

We have so much work to do together on this earth, but we cannot do it without unity among believers first. Therefore, we pray that you will bind us together in Christ, unite us in prayer, and bless our efforts that they may cause you praise and glory throughout the world.

Please help us be agents of healing where there is conflict. Give us the power to live with truthfulness, kindness, and understanding to each other in a daily life that reflects the love of Christ. We ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen

1 Cor 1:10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.

6- Freedom from sin

Gracious God, free your people from the sins and have mercy. We humble our hearts before you. We ask your forgiveness for all the ways we have failed and all the ways we have offended you.

You are gracious and ready to forgive when we confess and repent. Forgive us for thirsting after status; forgive us for idolizing material things; forgive us as we miss your presence in our day-to-day lives. Forgive us where our selfish ambition has polluted our days and chipped away at the vision you have given us to live out. Forgive our pride, lest we lose sight of the purpose you have given us.

Please help us stop making idols of money and status, and help us not fear losing things that are not eternal and free us from the sins that prevent us from seeing the Gospel as good news.

2 Chronicles 7:14 – If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
